Parents

George Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary to his parents; Elizabeth Soros (mother) and Tivadar Soros (father).

His mother operated a successful silk store while his father was a lawyer and a renowned Esperanto author who edited the Esperanto literary magazine, Literatura Mondo.

His father, Tivadar had also been a prisoner of war during and after World War I until he escaped from Russia and rejoined his family in Budapest, the Capital of Hungary.

Elizabeth and Tivadar married in 1924. Initially, their family name was ‘Schwartz’. In 1936, they changed it to ‘Soros’ due to antisemitic (a form of racism) in Hungary.

Wife

At the time of this writing (Tuesday, May 16, 2023), Soros has been married three times and divorced twice.

His first marriage was to Annaliese Witschak. They tied the knot in 1960 and divorced in 1983. She was an ethnic German immigrant, who had been orphaned during the war.

Following George’s separation from his wife, Annaliese Witschak, he got married to his second wife, Susan Weber in 1983. They divorced in 2005.

In 2008, Soros met Tamiko Bolton and after years of being in a relationship, they finally got married on September 21, 2013.

Children

George Soros has been blessed with five children; Alexander Soros, Andrea Soros, Gregory Soros, Robert Soros, and Jonathan Soros.

George shares three of his children with his first wife, Annaliese Witschak (m. 1960–1983). They are Robert Soros (born in 1963), Andrea Soros (born in 1965), and Jonathan Soros (born in 1970).

Robert is the founder of the Central European University in Budapest, Andrea is the founder and president of Trace Foundation while Jonathan is a hedge fund manager and political donor and

George shares his other two children with his second wife, Susan Weber (m. 1983–2005). They are; Alexander Soros (born in 1985) and Gregory James Soros (born 1988).

Alexander is known for his donations to social and political causes. He led the list of student political donors in the 2010 election cycle. Gregory is an artist.

Siblings

George Soros is not the only child of his parents; Elizabeth Soros (mother) and Tivadar Soros (father). His older brother, Paul Soros was a private investor, philanthropist, and engineer.

Paul Soros died on June 15, 2013. He was the head of Soros Associates and also established the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for Young Americans.

Paul was married to Daisy Soros, a Hungarian Jewish immigrant with whom he had two sons, Peter and Jeffrey
