Christina Grimmie Snubbed During Emmys' 'In Memoriam' Segment

Explore curated insights about Christina Grimmie Snubbed During Emmys' 'In Memoriam' Segment.

22-year-old Christina Grimmie’s senseless death was one of the most horrific events to occur in 2016. The YouTube sensation was shot and killed back in June by an estranged fan during an after-concert-meet-and-greet.

The Emmys’ “In Memoriam” tribute on Sunday night honored stars who passed away this year, recognizing everyone from athletes to musicians to actors. Some of the names mentioned in the segment included Gene Wilder, Muhammad Ali and Prince. Noticeably absent from the segment was Grimmie, who rose to fame on NBC’s The Voice. The same show that, might we add, won a trophy during the evening for Reality Competition Program.

The late star was also excluded from the Teen Choice Awards in August after FOX only used her name to promote their award show. Grimmie posthumously won her first Teen Choice Award for Music Web Star, but the network still failed to honor Grimmie, even during their segment on gun violence.

Fans were outraged that for the second time, Grimmie was not included.

Christina was a young woman with a heart of gold and a love for music as big as can be and that is how we will always remember her.
