When it comes to Steve James’ career, he has been involved in the entertainment industry since 1970. He relocated to San Antonio, Texas in order to continue his musical career. There, he shared the stage with everyone from saxophone genius Clifford Scott to rock and roll superstar Bo Diddley. He also shared stages with John Hammond, Jr. and Dave Van Ronk when touring through Texas at the time. He released his first album, Two-Track Mind, in 1993. Then, in 1994, he produced American Primitive, followed by Art & Girt in 1996. Even Bob Brozman performed slide guitar on his album, Art & Grit.

His records have earned him a name and fame. Similarly, in 2000, he published Boom Chang, and in 2003, he produced Fast Texas. James has contributed to Acoustic Guitar and created an instructional video. James McMurtry and Ana Egge both recorded his music. He is the ideal blend of John Fahey’s American Primitivism approach with the rhythmic sense of classic blues artists like Tampa Red and Barbecue Bob, putting him in a class by himself.
