Everything you need to know about Meet Tim Rypien and Julie Rypien, including critical updates.

Tim and Julie Rypien welcomed Rypien into the world in Spokane, Washington. He played football as well as baseball, the sport his father had participated in at the minor league level, as an athlete when still young.

Rypien went to Spokane, Washington’s Shadle Park High School. He spent his entire four years of high school at Shadle Park playing quarterback. By the time he graduated, he had broken Kellen Moore’s previous single-season and career records for passing yards (4,552) and touchdowns (50), both held by the former Boise State quarterback, as well as single-game and season highs for passing yards (613) and pass completions (1,006) in Washington state (44). Rypien graduated from Shadle Park early with a 4.0GPA and was named valedictorian.

Rypien was regarded as a four-star recruit right out of high school by both Rivals and Scout. In April 2014, he made a verbal commitment to attend Boise State University. In January 2015, he started attending.

Rypien is the nephew of former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, the cousin of former LFL quarterback Angela Rypien, and a first-degree relative of the late NHL enforcer Rick Rypien, who played his entire seven-year career with the Vancouver Canucks before passing away at the age of 27 in August 2011.

Rypien is related to Chris Tormey, a CFL assistant with the Ottawa Redblacks, through his mother’s side of the family. Rypien allegedly worked on formally obtaining Canadian citizenship in 2019, before the NFL and CFL drafts. Rypien is qualified to hold dual citizenship because his father is a Canadian citizen.
