Collins declared his plan to forego his final three years of collegiate eligibility and join the 2017 NBA lottery at the end of his rookie season. The Sacramento Kings chose him 10th overall, and he was later traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. Collins signed with the Trail Blazers on July 3, 2017.

The Trail Blazers announced on November 5, 2019, that Collins had undergone successful surgery to repair his left labrum and would be out for four months. Collins underwent successful surgery to repair his left medial malleolus stress fracture on December 30, 2020, and so missed the full season, according to the Trail Blazers.

Collins refractured his foot while healing from his previous injury, and the Trail Blazers revealed on June 29, 2021, that he underwent a second revision surgery to treat his left medial malleolus stress fracture. As a result of the injury, he did not play in the playoffs.
