Bebe Rexha was raised in Brooklyn, New York City, USA. She was born Bleta Rexha on August 30, 1989. She was born into a North Macedonian Albanian family. Her mother Bukurije was born in the US to an Albanian family with origins in North Macedonia, while her father Flamur Rexha immigrated to the US from North Macedonia. “Bebe” is the Albanian word for “bee,” which she began to be called by others as a nickname.

Bebe and her family relocated to Staten Island when she was six years old, where she was raised alongside her brother Florent. She played in several productions and was a member of the choir at Tottenville High School. She found out she had a high-pitched singing voice and was a coloratura soprano when she was in the high school choir.
