Before entering politics, he worked in the banking and oil industries. He has a passion for farming as well. Otu was first chosen to serve as the representative for the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in April 2003. He was re-elected in April 2007.
Bassey Edet Otu is a Nigerian politician elected to the Federal House of Representatives in 2003 and served in the Cross River State constituency of Calabar Municipal/Odukpani from 2003 to 2011.
Additionally, he held the positions of deputy chairman of the House Committee on National Population and chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Upstream).
