Ramos accepted a position with Grupo Televisa’s flagship station in Mexico City, XEW-TV, where he worked on a local version of the American television show “60 Minutes.” He left that employment when he was 24 years old when the network edited a report he made criticizing the Mexican government.

Jorge secured a student visa and traveled to Los Angeles with the intention of attending journalism studies at the UCLA Extension. The following year, he was employed by KMEX-TV, a Spanish International Network station in Los Angeles, and he described the job as “a palace… the United States gave me opportunities that my country of origin could not: freedom of the press and complete freedom of expression.”

Ramos began hosting the morning show “Mundo Latino” on KMEX, which later became Univision, in 1987. He then hosted the nightly broadcast “Noticiero Univision” and the weekly current affairs series “Al Punto” on the network, as well as the Fusion TV show “America with Jorge Ramos.” He has covered major world events such as the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the Persian Gulf War, and the September 11th terrorist attacks, as well as interviewing world leaders such as Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Hugo Chávez, George W. Bush, and Fidel Castro.

Jorge made the documentary “Hate Rising,” in which he was given “rare, exclusive access to the Neo-Nazi, Ku Klux Klan and ‘Alt-Right’ movements, whose hateful rhetoric against innocent Americans is on the rise in part because of the extraordinary 2016 election season.” Ramos and his journalistic entourage were detained in Venezuela’s Miraflores Palace in February 2019 during an interview with President Nicolás Maduro.

Their tapes and equipment were confiscated, and they were eventually released and deported from Venezuela. Ramos has appeared on a variety of television shows, including “El gordo y la flaca,” “Pa’lante con Cristina,” and “Despierta América!” “Nuestra Belleza Latina,” “Aquí y ahora,” “The Colbert Report,” “Moyers & Company,” “The Kelly File,” “Tavis Smiley,” “Real Time with Bill Maher,” “Good Morning America,” “The View,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “PoliticKING with Larry King,” and “The Daily Show.”
